Prevent the Dead Beats from Picking without $

Is there an easy way to prevent users from placing picks if they have not paid for that week? Like when they go to enter picks, we can prevent them from accessing the form stating "You need to Pay First before placing Picks" or error when they hit submit or update on the entry Form?

I found some forum posts on this and tried one out with the AvailFunds Function and update to the weeklyentry.asp file but a user is still allowed to make picks without payment. I tried clearing cache and all, but it is still allowing picks and I am using version 4.0. Is this a function that only works with a specific pool type? I am just doing a basic pool with point spreads and weekly winners - end of season winner. I copied the code from the post and inserted it without issue, just wondering how to get it bulletproof and operational. I do not want dead beats that have not paid allowed to place any picks for that week. I do not want to have to verify each pool players payments each week, rather let the system allows those that pay to play. Thanks Very Much.

I've posted the first release of version 4 on the site. While it doesn't have all the new features I'd hoped to include, it does have the modifications and fixes from the previous version.

One new feature is the ability to add your own custom javascript and/or css code without having to update the core files. This should make it easier to implement any inevitable fixes.

I'm still trying to get a couple new features worked into a new release, but as new season is fast approaching I wanted to get a baseline version out so folks could started.

Set All Users Email Preferences

Does anyone have a script to set the Email Options (All 4) to On for All Users? Users forget to manage their profile and set these on to get updates-emails-announcements etc.

Drop down menus

Some of my users are having problems with the drop down menus. I know they are javascript, aren't they? What do you suggest they do? Reset Internet Explorer settings? I've run into this problem in the past, but I don't know if I've ever found a complete workaround.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

List user and contact info

I need to be able to list the user and their contact info. We are using that field to help track who got that user to join the pool. I know the contact (and email) field are encrypted, so I can't view them directly via MS Access.

Therefore I am trying to right a page that would show the user and their contact info. My coding is not that great so if anyone has any tips that would be great. In the mean time I will plug away and see if I can get it to work. Thanks

Game Locks

Sorry for asking a dumb question --- since I ran a pool last year, but I forget when games lock. Like this week, the first game is Thursday. I am running just a survivor pool. Do all my participants need to get their picks in before Thursday or do they have until the eraly game on Sunday if they are electing not to pick one of the Thursday teams.

Version 4.0 Beta Available

I've posted a (hopefully) stable beta version of the pool. It includes a version of the database with the 2010 preseason schedule for anyone willing to test it out in a live fire exercise. Some features are still missing but it does include all the additional features offered as mods for the previous version.

Please try it out and post any issues, comments or suggestions in this thread. Thanks and enjoy.

Hello fellow poolers! I have used this awesome scripting for 2 years now and each year I paid a programmer to install and modify the scripts to add new features... This year I simply want/need the script working. I just want a confidence points pool set up. Any additional modifications would be awesome however not manditory... I would LIKE to ahve paid and free players... I would like them distinguishable. I still have the old installs on the same server that have some pretty kewl modifications like text messaging and auto-email reminders for almost late pics along with any and all picks and changes to picks are auto-emailed to the player and me so that there is no discrepency if picks were received or not (for the non-internet-educated players. I paid a few hundred bucks last year to a guy who I think is in this forum and the year before I paid a couple programmers as well to make some of the same and other mods. Again, I am not looking to go all super custom this year but to re-use last years messaging would be awesome! I dont mind sharing it either... If you have skillz and want to help out ... FOR FREE... getting my pool setup.... I would truly be grateful along with the 100 or so family and friends who will be happy or unhappy if i dont do it this year. Access to Email Addresses to Create Email List - Or Email Page to Email All Users with WYSIWYG Editor

Is there a way to extract all user names and passwords to create an email distribution list of all active users that can be imported into Outlook etc.?

Is there a page that has been created to email all users similar to the message board and News updates but includes the message in the body of the email versus a link sent to the users where you have control of subject etc.? We like to Trash Talk and the Message Board is good, but this would be so much easier for emailing updates, rules, HTML Email with Graphics Etc. I can code one out, but was wondering if one exists already?

Change the range of the confidence points

Hi' there

Does anyone know of a way to change the confidence points range. As it is now, it adds 1 untill it reaches the nbr. of games. I would like it to add for example 2 or 3 instead, so that it would say 1,3,5,7 ets or 1,4,7,10 etc.

weekly summary

It's not a big deal, but I notice that the overall winner at the bottom of the table lists everyone who makes picks on the first week as equal winners. After a game result is posted, then it lists the total overall amount correctly with no winners.

I checked the db and there are no records existing that are old, or shouldn't be there.

Any ideas?

Help with Account Summary

This may be a long shot as not too many have implemented the multiple payouts for weekly and overall weekly from mikes original 4.0 alpha release. One of the only issues i am having is that in the account summary display for weekly winners at the moment only displays the weekly winner with the total amount of pot. I have used a multiplyer to reduce the main winners pot amount to reflect there portion of the pot for now but is only a temporary fix. I would rather the summary display the all multiple winners and there prize amounts for the users to keep the account balances accurate.

i have an understanding of how this works but am unsure what else to incorporate in from the multiple weekly. I was thinking it would make it really easy if the winners and there amounts were written to the database then i could just pull that info for the summary page, as of now all that is written to the database is the weekly winner only no pot amount let alone my multiple winners. I am not quite sure just some of the ideas running through my head.

PayPal Mod Question

I have seen other sites offer payments through PayPal, but it did not require the user to create a PayPal account to do so. The user could click continue on the first PayPal page then just enter their CC info.

My experience so far with the PayPal mod is slightly different... the only options are to sign in with your existing account or to make a new account while providing the CC info.

Is this what everyone else is seeing?

Updating from version 3.1 to 4.0

I just configured my 3.1 pool and it's working awesome. We have 25 players setup. I would like to upgrade to the new 4.0 version, do I need to do anything other that copy over the db file? Or is there a different procedure to upgrade to the new code?

Minor bug

Found a minor bug. If you sign in as Admin and look at a page like the weekly entry form, it might actually show "Entry Form for Admin" with the entry form (it won't let you enter as Admin, but it should not show the form).

To correct this, you just need to update these settings in includes/config.asp:

change:

    'Session variables.

    const SESSION_THEME_KEY    = "Theme"
    const SESSION_USERNAME_KEY = "Username"

to:

     'Session variables.
